************************************************************************************* Wow.. another week has passed, and it felt like 3 eons. Or 3.1, maybe. In any case, it was forever. Today, I find myself exhausted. Last weekend I stayed home and slept and read. I finished, "Living Buddha, Living Christ." Very good book for someone who doesn't know much about Buddhism. It makes the argument that Buddhism and Christianity are very similar. And it does it very well. Alex and I were talking about our book-swapping and James, a friend of ours from San Francisco, was there. He joined in our little religious discussion and suddenly mentioned that he had a great book to contribute to the melee of reading and discussing. It is called "Four Stories and a Play" by Miguel Unamono. A translation of his Spanish work, and it was great. Truly a unique author, and that is very refreshing. I finished it just two days after he lent it to me, and now Alex is having his go. Meanwhile, I have begun to read "The Idiot's Guide to Eastern Philosophy." Pretty good foundation of Eastern thought, so far. Classes have been OK.. Politics and Religion are incredibly boring, but they're only once a week so I will tolerate it. Hopefully our readings will spawn some kind of discussion. I spend so much time in these discussions as it is, I might as well get college credit, too! CDs I have listened to recently(I don't listen to much music lately here): Counting Crows, Denver 12-2-99 concert Counting Crows, August and Everything After Cush, Cush Brian and I I had yakisoba last night for dinner. Basically, soba is a kind of buckwheat noodle and it was served fried, mixed with some veggies like cabbage and onions, and sat on top of an omelette-type egg thing. They put eggs on everything here, especially hamburgers. Today for lunch, we went to Mos Burger, which is a McDonald's kind of place, except that they let you sit down and they bring you the food. And the Chicken-burgers are ok. If you can get fountain drinks, they often have only a few choices: Coca-Cola, Fanta Apple(favorite), Fanta Orange and/or Grape, Ginger Ale Most places also serve some kind of tea and iced coffee. Tuesday night I went to a baseball game at the Nagoya Dome. Of course, the Nagoya Dragons won. It cost me about $16 to go, and I spent a few dollars on the food there. Wednesday, I was supposed to open a bank account. It was imperative that I get it done Wednesday afternoon, but the bank closes at 3:00p and I had a lecture from 1-2pm. So by the time I got there, it had closed. I missed it by 3 minutes. So I went Thursday and opened it. My ATM card is of Bugs Bunny. It was that or a boring bank card. Alex bought my ticket to go see a Sumo tournament. That should be fun. This weekend I have no major plans, except that my friend's birthday was on Tuesday(thus the baseball excursion) and she is celebrating tomorrow. We are meeting at noon, so I think I had better go to bed early! :) Well, I am thoroughly exhausted. I apologize for the post cards I have yet to send, or even write. I have a few that I have left and I will finish them all this weekend and send a batch out. Ah, final note.. Monday night I received a letter in the mail. I didn't recognize the name or address, but it was addressed to me. From Dearborn Heights, Michigan.. It turns out that I posted my web address in a message on an AOL Counting Crows message board online.. she saw it and has been reading the webpage and enjoying my adventures (or misadventures, we should say). So she sent me a card! And she's never even met me..How cool is that! Thank you Rhonda! You made my week, and made the webpage! :) Peace, kids.. enjoy the cool air wherever you are. And try to send me a breeze or two.. we could use it here. Keep me in your prayers and go Irish!
