*************************************************************************************
The last update was on Good Friday.. since then, there have been developments, though
none all that interesting, I'm sure.
For one, I bought a Japanese cookbook(in English, of course) and made some stuff. The
first one was yakisoba, which is Chinese fried noodles, cabbage, pork, sauce, and
some other stuff.. It's probably one of my favorite foods here, and I am very happy
to be able to make it.
Paul came to class today in jeans, an old tee-shirt, a sleeve-less(because they were
torn off) plaid flannel shirt with the name "Bo Duke" stitched into it, and a John
Deere hat with abolutely no bend to the bill. He talks constantly in a hick accent,
and only stops "chewin' tobacker" to take another swig of moonshine or sing another
rousing chorus of "Dixie Land."
I finished Stephen King's Insomnia the other day. It is very much recommended, but
a long read. And I think it's caused a psychosomatic reaction in my own sleep
patterns, because I have been suffering from a similar type of insomnia lately.
Among the other developments, I have a Japanese girlfriend named Chihiro, as of
last Tuesday when we talked for the first time in months, and she admitted that
she has had a crush on me for a long time.
Quotes from mutual friends: "Heck, I could have told you that months ago!" and
"What, you didn't know that? Man, ever since December.."
And I find out with less than a month left. Now, with less than three weeks before
I head back to America, I get involved. I am the smartest person in the world, no
sarcasm.
Anyway, she's cool and we have discussed this whole one-month relationship thing,
and she's fine with it.
Well, we have been hanging out a bit lately, but she's quite busy with her part
time job. She speaks some english, (she's an english major) but Japanese people
tend to be able to read English a lot better than they can hear and speak it.
I have been playing a lot of guitar lately, and listening to plenty of music. I
also play tons of video games, mostly Crazy Taxi on the Dreamcast. Great game,
and I think I'm addicted to it.
Last week saw the finish of my page and a half paper in Japanese on Japanese
Religions and various Mysteries within that subject. It's incredibly boring, but
I only have to give a five minute speech on it on Thursday to be done with that whole
deal for good. Also, a five page paper for my Lit class will be the grand finale for
the week.
This weekend we had a party in our dorm, and lots of people came. I made popcorn
(the first that many people had eaten since being in Japan). We also had some
Macaroni and Cheese, and mashed potatoes. Very cool.
Well, I have to get working on my speech and paper. Next week will probably be the
last or next to last update before I get home. From there I will post all my
pictures and give a nice final posting or something.
Until then, Peace, Love, Sushi-stock up
