Welcome, friends. Thank you for visiting me here. For those of you who may not have heard, I am studying abroad in Japan for my sophomore year of college. Through the University of Notre Dame's International Study Programs, I'll be spending the next nine months of my life with a host family in Nagoya, Japan. My host parents are sixty years old, and I have no host siblings. I have yet to make contact with them.

My address in Japan is: 1-98 Kaminokura Midori-ku, Nagoya 458-0082 Japan

I will be attending Nanzan University in Nagoya, which is about an hour-hour and a half south of Tokyo. It's on the coast, so I should be able to see the mountains and the ocean at the same time. I'm so pumped.

The school is a Catholic school, and offers Japanese class in the mornings, and other classes in the afternoons. Those classes can be taken in English, or you can enroll for Japanese-taught classes. I am electing to take the English versions, for obvious reasons. :)

Well, I'm calling my host family tomorrow morning at six. They're about 14 hours ahead of us(in Indiana). (6am here is 8pm there.)  Also, in case you haven't seen me in the last day or two, I'm REALLY stressed. I don't know if I'll be able to communicate; I feel like the last five years of classes are simply out of reach.. I know the information is there, but can't seem to remember any of it!

I'm hoping to update this site weekly, to give people an idea of how I'm doing, without constant emails. That way, if someone really cares, they can check it. If they don't, they don't have to hear about it.  Also, I'm going to buy a digital camera soon after I arrive, so I can put some cool pictures of my trip on this page.

So I think this is where I sign off.. be sure to check back in about two weeks, after classes have started, and I have access to a computer. Until then, you can still email me at:  grundy.2@nd.edu

Wish me some luck, keep me in your prayers, and I'll see you next summer!

Chas
